Winter holidays in Wengen don’t need to be just about skiing. Wengen offers a wealth of other activities to enjoy the snow and ice.

Winter Hiking

Explore the mountains on foot with 100 km of winter footpaths across the Jungfrau region.

Our favourite walks in Wengen:

Hunnefluh: A 1 hour hike for a view across the valley to the Schynige Platte. .

Leiterhorn: A 2 hour hike for a stunning view down to Zweilütschinen and Interlaken. A winter wonderland of snow, firs and archetypal Swiss huts.

Staubbachbänkli: A 1 hour hike with views over Wengen and the Lauterbrunnen valley. Stop at Mary's Café where you can enjoy a warming, cosy rest. A return along the bucolic lower path via Wengwald will add approximately 1h to the trip.

Our six favourite walks in the Kleine Scheidegg - Wengen - Männlichen region:

Alpiglen - Brandegg - Grindelwald (9.5km): The footpath at the foot of the massive Eiger North Face has a wonderful view of the Grindelwald Valley.

Kleine Scheidegg - Fallboden - Kleine Scheidegg: A delightful circular winter footpath, immediacy of the towering Eiger rockface and views over Kleine Scheidegg.

Kleine Scheidegg - Wengernalp - Wengen (7km): With the impressive backdrop of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau mountains, this easy walking path remains interestingly varied, at times following the ski run, at times, meandering through the snow-laden forest pines. At other points it features a view of the Lauberhorn Race track.

Männlichen - Holenstein (6km): This predominantly downhill walk follows the ski piste, with views over the Grindelwald valley to the Faulhorn (2681 m) to the north west, Schwarzhorn (2928 m ), Wetterhorn (3701 m ) and Schreckhorn (4078 m) and Eiger (3970 m)to the east.

Männlichen - Kleine Scheidegg (6km): Take the cable car from Wengen to the Männlichen before starting the undulating traverse downwards towards Bustiglen, passing the foot of the “Tschuggen” on the way. From Bustiglen you can take the chair lift or hike up to Kleine Scheidegg. Enjoy a drink or a satisfying lunch at Kleine Scheidegg before heading hometo Wengen via the memorable mountain cog railway opened in 1893.

Männlichen - Männlichen Peak (2km): Follow the path left from the cable car station up to the viewing point with unique views over the Lauterbrunnen and Lütschen Valleys.

Our two favourite walks in the First-Grindelwald Region:

First-Bachalpsee-Faulhorn-Bachalpsee-First: Climbing steeply from Bachalpsee the Faulhorn summit is reached with a superb panoramic view. Check for trail opening times.

First-Bachalpsee-First: An atmospheric winter walk to the 'white' Bachalpsee when the trail is prepared.

Tobogganing

Wengernalp - Wengen (4.5km): Alight from the train at Wengenalp and you’re off! Care is required in parts and some experience is necessary as you helter skelter down through snow laden forest pines and narrow bends,through the underpass and along the ski slope to the bumps lift and Allmend. From here the run towards Wengen crosses the train track for a cross country section and a finish in Waldbort, central Wengen.

Männlichen - Holenstein: An exhilarating descent with beautiful panoramas , thrills and spills as you navigate your way down the tortuous steeps and leisurely inclines.

Eiger Run: Alpiglen to Grindelwald –Grund, 8 km. A fun run with steep and leisurely choices to suit your wishes, this run starts at the uppermost station of the Grindelwald, First cable car and descends via Schreckfeld to the lower intermediate station, Bort.

-Intersport Central Sport (033 855 23 23): Situated on the main street just next to the Männlichen cable car, Central Sport offers a good range of rental equipment from skis to snowboards to sledges.

-Intersport Molitor (033 855 21 31): Situated at the far end of the main street, Molitor offers a good range of rental equipment from skis to snowboards to sledges.
